School Days

Disclaimer: Characters from the Adventures of Voltron and the New Adventures of Voltron are copyright 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1997 by WEP. Any and all new/original characters belong to the author.
Rating: PG-13 for adult themes, violence and bad language.
Author’s notes: This is an AU fic about Keith and Allura. A few days ago I watched a Japanese movie called Love Letters (2000) about first love in secondary school. It also reminded me a bit of the rocky relationship between Candy and Terry from the Manga/Anime Candy Candy (1974)
I want to thank my dear friend Lynne for being my editor. C&C are welcomed.

[Her Royal Highness Princess Allura of Arus is in her bedchamber. She is sitting on her desk writing her diary, while Coran, her royal advisor is downstairs in the control room, waiting for news from the Alliance.]
MARCH 29TH
Dear diary:
Two years ago today my father and his knights lost their lives defending our planet, after Hagar the witch separated the mighty Voltron into five pieces.
Father and his knights faced Zarkon and his army. It was a fierce battle. They faced each other in a sword fight. Father being a master swordsman soon overpowered Zarkon, but the evil one called upon Hagar's magic once again and gave him the fatal blow.
When the guards brought his body, I ran to his side. Coran tried to comfort me but I wanted to die. I had lost my mother when I was sixteen years old and now I had lost my father at the hands of Zarkon.
Coran told me that he had promised my parents to take care of me. I don't know what I would have done without him. Our poor planet is falling apart and most of my people had been taken to planet Doom as slaves and the rest are hiding in the caves.
He decided that we should stay in the caves underneath the castle during the attacks. My father had built a shelter years ago. It is furnished comfortably and has a water source and food supplies.
Oh no! Yurak and his fleet are back, Coran is coming for me. We must go back to the caves.

MARCH 30TH
Dear diary:
Yurak has finally left. But not before taking more slaves. And we couldn't do anything to stop him. I hate Zarkon. I want him to pay for all the pain and anguish he has caused to my people and my family.
Coran sent a message to the Galaxy Alliance asking them to send five space explorers to resurrect Voltron. But that was a week ago, and they have not replied. Sometimes I wonder if Zarkon intercepted our message. He has done it before.
But we won't give up. I know my parents will help us. We need Voltron. I hope those space explorers come soon.
Coran gave me permission to return to the castle. I wanted to get some fresh clothes for both of us. I was looking in my dresser when I found a school yearbook from junior high.
That was so long ago… more than seven years. I had just finished the 8th grade at Denubian Middle School, when my parents decided to send me to Terra to continue my studies.
I was so excited! It would be my first trip to Terra. And when they told me I was going to a boarding school I was ecstatic. Nanny would not be able to come with me. Even though I loved her deeply, sometimes she can be a pain in the neck. I would be my own person for the first time.
My mother accompanied me to Terra. We arrived in the city of San Diego, California, on the western part of the United States. She enrolled me in a Catholic School, St. Mary's Academy.
I was so nervous in our interview with the headmistress, Sister Josephine. She had a menacing look (thick bushy white eyebrows and piercing brown eyes) and her voice was ominous, just remembering her brings shivers down my spine.
She told Mom that I wouldn't be treated any differently from the rest. I wouldn't be known as HRH Princess Allura, I would be using my complete name, Kristina Allura Lyons. I didn't mind at all. I wanted to be treated like everyone else.
I was given my own room. It was small, but comfortable. It had a twin bed, an oak desk, a bookshelf and its own bathroom. But the thing I loved the most was its balcony, it had a breathtaking view of the harbor.
Coran is coming, more later…

APRIL 1ST
Dear Diary:
It seems that Yurak has taken a few days off. Could it be possible that they have given up? Coran says that they won't stop until they get us. He tried to send another message to the Alliance, but Yurak damaged our communication system. Coran is very resourceful, but he needs new parts for the console. I told him not to worry. The space explorers will come soon. I can feel it!
Anyway, I'll continue with my story. Mother and I stayed in a condominium near the harbor until the beginning of the school year. We went to the beach, the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Balboa Park and the shopping malls. I bought tons of clothes. Too bad I had to use a uniform in the academy. It was a white cotton blouse, a red cardigan with the insignia of the school embroidered in its pocket, a navy blue skirt, white cotton socks and black penny loafers. The boys used a navy blue suit and tie, a white cotton shirt and black shoes.
On the last day of my vacation, my mom and I went to my room to prepare my things. She kissed me on the forehead and we began to cry. I didn't want her to go, but I had to prove to myself that I could live on my own. After all it would be only a year. I was going to study high school back home at Galaxy High. After she composed herself she left. But not before making me promise not to get in trouble at school.
I entered class at 7am. I was assigned to group 3B. I entered the classroom and felt all eyes upon me. I was so nervous my hands began to sweat. The teacher asked me to sit down. I looked around and saw an empty desk in the middle of the room and hurried off.
The teacher introduced herself. Her name was Sister Perpetua. She wasn't anything like Sister Josephine. She had a sweet melodious voice and seemed laid back. She then began the roll call. When my name came up I raised my hand…
"Lyons."
"Here," a deep voice said.
"Here," I said.
Everyone started talking among themselves. I turned around… the voice belonged to a boy with long unruly black hair and dark eyes. He was sitting next to the window.
Sister Perpetua winced slightly. "You two have the same last name. I will have to use your first names."
She glanced at him. "Keith Alexander Lyons," she said, and then turning to me, said, "Kristina Allura Lyons."
The classroom erupted in giggling laughter. I sneaked another look at the boy and he glared at me for a few moments… I swallowed convulsively, if looks could kill.
I averted my gaze. He then turned his attention back to the window, with a bored look on his face.
That was the beginning of a difficult year for both of us.
More later…

APRIL 2ND
Dear diary:
One my classmates told me that Keith belonged to one of the richest families of the region. His father, Kenneth Lyons was the owner of Lyons Five Inc., a Fortune 500 computer company. He became a multimillionaire by creating an operating system for the military. Keith was an only child, like myself.
I don't know why, but everyone believed that because we shared the same initials and last name that we were an item. They would write our names in the blackboard surrounded by hearts. We tried to ignore them but they continued harassing us. The toughest days were when were assigned for the roll call.
One day, Keith and I were alone in the classroom. I was standing in front of the blackboard. He was sitting on his desk.
"Keith?"
"What?"
"Who will be in charge of the roll call tomorrow?"
"Anzures and Juarez."
He then asked, "What did you see in math class?"
I stopped writing and gazed at him. "Equations."
At that moment three of our classmates, Andy Anderson, Matthew Juarez and John Roberts entered the classroom.
"It's hot in here, isn't it Allura?" Andy said. He then burst out laughing. "I told you she was going to blush!" he squealed before they ran away.
I shook my head. Stupid kids! I thought.
"What kind of equations?" Keith said matter-of-factly.
"Quadratic equations."
"Thank you."
Nobody believed that we hated being the targets of their jokes. I thought this was going to last a few days, but they had other plans.
Weeks later, we chose the class president, Joel Garvey. He said that we should also vote for library assistants. And the snickering began. Something was up. I could feel it. The votes were counted and he declared, "The Lyons couple we'll be in charge of the library. How about a round of applause?"
I blushed furiously; I wanted them to stop… I was so embarrassed, that I began to cry.
"Look! She's crying," someone said.
Joel moved toward me and knelt down at my left. "Oh! What's wrong Allura? Why are you crying?" he asked and then burst out laughing.
Everyone followed suit. I wanted to run away…
A chair hit the floor, everyone gasped… I heard footsteps… someone stopped beside me, I lifted my head and saw Keith. Our eyes locked for a few moments in quiet understanding before he hit my desk, making Joel lose his balance.
He then stormed out of the classroom.
"What's wrong with him?" Joel breathed.
"You made his girlfriend cry, you fool!"
"You shouldn't mess with Keith."
"He really loves her!"
"Awwwww!"
Joel stood back up and began to applaud. "Beautiful! Love conquers all," he said moving toward the front of the classroom. Everyone laughed again.
Keith burst into the room and grabbed Joel by the collar and pushed him onto the blackboard. "Hey, Lyons," he laughed. "I was only joking! Let me go!"
But he didn't let go. He then crashed him onto the desk. "Say you're sorry!" he growled.
Joel began to gasp. "Hey! Let me go! Arghh! Hey! Hey! Stop it!"
"Say you're sorry, you bastard!"
"No! Let me go!"
Denise- Joel's girlfriend- ran toward them. She tried to pull Keith away from him. "Let him go Keith! Stop it! Help me you guys!" she cried and some of the boys tried to separate them. But Keith wouldn't let go of him.
I just stared in awe. He was quite strong. He only released Joel when Sister Perpetua came in and hit them with a ruler.
His efforts to stop their harassing were in vain. Sister Perpetua sent us to the library. I did most of the work. I would ask him to help me and he just ignored me. Sometimes I would find him sitting on the floor reading, or at least pretending to read.
One day, I was in the main desk of the library, writing a book report when Keith placed a bunch of Astronomy books on front of me. He liked to take out books that nobody read just for the fun of it.
"Do you read all these books?"
He smirked at me. "Of course not."
"Don't you think this is foolish? Taking books that you don't read?"
He gazed at me for a few moments. Oh my, he had beautiful brown eyes.
He then took out his library card and offered it to me.
"A flash from Lyons to Lyons," he murmured.
I grabbed his card and scanned it along with the books. Silently, he took his card and the books and left the library. He continued to do that all throughout the semester.

APRIL 3RD
Dear diary:
There's still no response from the Galaxy Alliance. What is taking them so long? They must have a shortage of space explorers. Coran and I heard Doom ships this morning, but they didn't attack the castle.
At least I have this distraction. Coran went to the control room to see if there were any messages. He spends hours and hours just sitting there.
Last night I dreamed I was in a royal ball. It's been so long. I miss the music, the laughter and especially the food. Nanny had the magic touch. I wonder where she is right now. I hope she's okay.
When I was in 9th grade we had a costume ball. It was a tradition at St. Mary's. Patty Anzures (she was a classmate of mine) went as Morticia Addams and I was Juliet.
The ball was held in the auditorium. We were sitting next to the door when Andy Anderson asked her to dance. He was dressed as a caveman; I think he said he was Fred Flintstone or something. Anyway, I was left all alone. Patty told me that the boys from our class had agreed not to ask me to dance because they were afraid of Keith's wrath. I kept telling her that he was not my boyfriend, but she didn't believe me!
I had learned from Patty, who didn't like to gossip (yeah right!) that Keith was a problem child since he was in 1st grade.
He missed classes and he didn't do his homework (but still managed to get A's on all the exams), he smoked cigarettes and drove a black convertible. He was only 15! You must be 16 to get a driver's permit in California. He was probably using a fake license.
He was in constant battle with the headmistress, and he would pick up fights with his classmates. I told Patty that he should be expelled from school. But she told me that his father was the main sponsor of the school. So they had to put up with his antics.
A boy from 3A asked me to dance. He was dressed as Count Dracula. He looked so funny. Every time he tried to speak, his fangs would fall off. Afterwards he took me back to my table.
Sitting next to me was a girl from 3C called Marianne Armstrong. She was dressed as Marie Antoinette.
She hung her head and said, "Men are selfish, don't you think so?"
"Excuse me?"
She raised her head. "But you know what? We women are more selfish," she added darkly.
I didn't know what to say. She looked and acted strange. Maybe she had spiked her punch.
I looked around for Patty and saw Keith at the entrance. He was dressed as an 18th century Frenchman. Right down to the white stockings. His thick dark hair was tied in a queue. He looked quite handsome. All the girls were staring at him. But he didn't seem to notice.
Marianne saw him and said, "This is the first time that Keith comes to a ball. He looks quite dashing, doesn't he?" She turned to me and I just shrugged my shoulders. "I guess."
She then rose from her seat. "He's coming this way. I bet he's going to ask me to dance. I know he likes me. My father and his father are great friends."
Keith walked up to me, when Marianne stepped on his way. "Keith! It's so great to see you! Are you going to ask me to dance?"
He smirked at her. "Sorry Marianne, but I'm not in the mood right now," he said and then glanced at me. "Maybe later, Ok?"
He walked off, leaving Marianne fuming mad. "Why that! Who does he think he is? I'm Marianne Armstrong, the daughter of Albert Armstrong, owner of Armstrong Laboratories!" she spat before storming out of the auditorium.
I released a sigh of relief. Keith had saved me once again from a difficult situation. Suddenly I felt the urge to thank him and decided to look for him, but a boy from 3C dressed as a soldier asked me to dance. I excused myself telling him that I had a terrible headache and left the ball.
I looked for Keith everywhere, but I couldn't find him. I stopped in the middle of the garden. I was about to give up when I heard a voice.
"What took you so long?"
It was Keith, but I couldn't see him anywhere. I walked up to a tree and suddenly he came down from it and I nearly fainted.
"You frightened me!"
He smirked at me. "Sorry."
He then reached over and took my hand. "Shall we dance?"
"But they're playing a waltz."
"So?"
"Do you know how to dance?" I asked.
"Of course."
He pulled me to him and we began to dance. Suddenly I felt I was back on Arus, dancing with a handsome prince from a far away planet. I smiled at him and he smiled back.
"Thank you for saving me from Marianne and her strange behavior. I didn't believe you would ask me to dance. You told her that you weren't in the mood."
"I wanted to dance with you, but she stepped on the way. So I lied."
I blushed all over. Tongue-tied, I just stared into his dark brown eyes.
He smiled mischievously at me. "And I guess you now expect me to kiss you, huh?"
I widened my eyes. "T-that's not true," I gasped.
"Come on – I know you want it."
I glared at him for a few moments and then pushed him away. I hated him when he behaved like an ass.

APRIL 4TH
Dear diary:
One day I went to the football field to relax after a grueling math exam. There I found Keith sitting on the bleachers, smoking a cigarette. I sneaked up behind him.
"Keith!"
He whipped around all wide eyed. "Allura! You startled me. I thought it was Sister Josephine."
"Why are you smoking?"
He took a puff and blew the smoke in my direction. "Because I like it," he said and then reached for a pack of cigarettes. "Do you want one?"
I began to cough and moved my hand to disperse the smoke. "Of course not! I don't know how."
He smirked. "I can show you… if you want to," he taunted.
I shook my head violently. "No, thank you, it's a nasty habit."
He lowered his gaze. "Suit yourself."
I sat down beside him and gazed at the horizon. "Why do you behave like this?"
"What do you mean?"
"Why do you miss school and don't do your homework? Why do you fight with your classmates and Sister Josephine?"
He chuckled softly. "Why are you so nosey?"
I groaned inwardly. "I'm serious Keith, do you have a problem?"
"Everybody has problems."
"Maybe I can help you."
"No one can help me."
"Keith – maybe we share the same problem. My parents are so busy with their work they don't spend a lot of time with me. But I know they love me."
"Sure! They love you so much, they sent you to this penguin school," he said drolly.
"They wanted me to meet other places, other people, other customs-"
"That's what you think. They must be happy to be rid of you."
"Keith – is that they way you feel about your parents?"
He rose abruptly from his seat, dropping his cigarette and crushing it with his boot.
"What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?!" he spat.
I blushed furiously. "I'm sorry – I didn't mean to upset you."
"Well you did, now bug off!" he snarled.
I got up and looked directly into his brown eyes. He was angry, but I also believed he was about to cry.
"I'm sorry," I whispered and ran away.
That night I couldn't sleep. I just kept thinking about him. Now I knew why he behaved like that. His parents didn't show him any affection. I decided to help him; well at least I would try.

Dear diary:
Still no sign of the space explorers…
After my encounter with Keith in the football field, I decided to leave him alone for a few days so he would calm down. I still wanted to help him, but I didn't know how. I asked Patty about his family. She told me that his parents were divorced.
His father had used his influence and money to gain custody. He didn't allow Keith to see or speak to his mother. Her name was Alexandra Torres. She was living in Paris with her new husband. I felt sorry for Keith, he was fifteen years old, but he still needed his mother's love and attention. I hated his father for hurting him like that.
After school, I decided to go the library. I was sorting some books when I heard footsteps. I turned around and saw Keith with a soft smile on his face.
"Hi."
I smiled at him. "Hello." He picked up some of the books from the cart.
"Which name do you prefer, Kristina or Allura?"
"Allura, why?"
He placed the books on the shelf. "You're the first person that I met with that name. Do you have a nickname?"
I placed a book on the shelf. "No."
He glanced at me. "I'll fix that. How about Ally?"
I wrinkled my nose. "I don't like it."
He smiled wickedly at me. "Ok – Ally it is."
I made a face. "I told you that I don't like it."
"You'll get used to it," he said, taking a book from the cart. "I want this book. Scan it."
I grabbed the book. "You can say please, can't you?"
"Please?" he said, winking.
I rolled my eyes at him. I walked up to the main desk and scanned the book. "Here you are". He reached for the book and brushed my hand with his.
"Thank you, Ally – for listening." Before I could respond he disappeared. I didn't know what to think. One moment he could be a total jerk, the other he could be so sweet.

Dear diary:
One day… I was in the locker room when Marianne Armstrong walked up to me.
"Allura, how are you?"
"Fine, thank you. And you?"
She smiled at me. "Fine, thanks. Hey – do you know if Keith has a girlfriend?"
I winced. "Of course not."
"Really?"
"What do you mean?"
"Oh – it's just that you seem to get along pretty well."
"Nonsense. Why do you say that?"
"You don't have any feelings for him?"
"No."
"I could play Cupid for you and Keith if you want to," she said.
"No, thank you."
"Very well – then I want you to intercede between Keith and me."
"What?"
She gave me a menacing look. "We girls must stick together; you will help me, won't you?"
And I accepted, not realizing the mess I was getting into. That afternoon Marianne and I went to the library. I told her that he would be there. She stayed at the front desk while I went to look for Keith. I found him sitting on the floor reading a book about space ships.
He looked up at me. "What do you want?"
"Marianne Armstrong would like to be your girlfriend."
He lowered his gaze. "So?"
"Well? Do you like her?"
He just shrugged his shoulders.
"Is there another girl that you like?"
He stared at me for a few moments and I suddenly felt very uncomfortable.
"Well – is there?"
He frowned deeply. "Of course not!" he spat.
"Very well – I'll tell her."
I went back to the main desk and told Marianne to go with Keith. She smiled widely and hurried off. I sat on the desk. A few minutes later, Keith came out and threw his book at the cart, but not before giving me an icy glare. When he left the library I went to look for Marianne. I found sitting of the floor in a total daze.
"It's always the same, you offer them your heart and they just break it," she whispered.
My first effort as Cupid had been a total disaster. I felt sorry for her. But you can't force someone to love you.

Dear diary:
Coran and I went to the nearby caves to talk the villagers. We gave them food and medical supplies. We told them that we sent a message to Alliance asking for help. But they're afraid that Zarkon will capture the space explorers. But Coran insists that they're trained for such contingencies.
Anyway, back to my story. When spring break arrived I thought that Mom would come for me and take me back to Arus. She told me that Dad was having problems with the king of planet Doom and decided that I should stay here in Terra. I wanted to see them so badly. But they were thinking about my safety.
Sister Perpetua said that I was the only student left in school. So I divided my time in the library, the gardens, the cafeteria and my room.
One night I was in the balcony looking at the stars. It was about 11pm and I decided it was time for bed. I guess I had been sleeping for about an hour when I heard a loud noise. I turned around and saw that someone was on the balcony. I panicked. That person was trying to get in. Slowly, I got up and reached for a vase.
The intruder managed to open the window and fell on the floor with a thud. I muffled a cry. I turned on the lights and gasped loudly.
It was Keith… and he was drunk as a skunk!
I knelt down beside him and shook him up. "Keith! Wake up! You must leave. I don't want to get in trouble."
He opened his eyes and smiled faintly. "Ally – I thought it was my room."
I grimaced. He smelled awful. "This is my room. The boy's dormitory is on the other side of the garden. Please go, before Sister Berenice starts her rounds."
He groaned. "Just let me rest for a few minutes. I promise I'll leave."
There was a knock on the door. "Miss Lyons – is everything all right?"
I winced. "Yes, Sister Berenice everything is Ok."
"Are you sure? I heard noises".
"I was having a nightmare. I'm fine now, don't worry."
"Very well – good night."
"Good night, Sister."
When I heard her leave I released a sigh of relief. I then looked down at Keith. He was fast asleep. I felt sorry for him. I reached for a pillow and put it underneath his head. He looked so peaceful. I decided to leave him there and went back to bed. I'll ask him to leave before dawn, I thought.
The next morning he was gone, but he had left a note pinned to the pillow. ~Thank you A. I'll see you later, K~
I dressed up and went to the cafeteria. I expected to see him, but he wasn't there. I supposed he was still sleeping in his room with a nasty hangover.
At noon, the sisters left for a special mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral. So I had the school all to myself, or so I thought.
I was sitting on the grass reading a book when a red rose was placed in front of my face. I looked up and saw Keith standing there.
"This is for you."
"Thank you," I said, taking the rose and noticing it didn't have thorns.
"What are you reading?"
"Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare," I said, smelling its wonderful scent.
"Ah. I know the ending… they die in each other's arms."
I nodded. "Yes – isn't that romantic?"
He snorted. "That's stupid, nobody dies for love."
"Love is sacrifice. You must give yourself for the one you love."
He sat next to me. "Is that the way you really feel?" he asked softly.
"Yes." I whispered. He then leaned over. He was about to kiss me when he suddenly drew back and laughed.
"You thought I was going to kiss you, didn't you?"
"Excuse me?"
He stood back up. "Sorry, Ally – but you're not my type. I prefer brunettes like Marianne."
I glared at him. "If you feel that way, why don't you go and look for her? She must be at her mansion in La Jolla or at her beach house in Rosarito."
He smirked. "Maybe I'll do that. I must go; I don't want to see the penguins." He stood and walked off.
I saw him jump into his black convertible and rode off.
I clenched my hands into fists. I felt so jealous of Marianne all of sudden. But why did I feel this way? He wasn't my boyfriend. As a matter of fact I hated him for playing with my feelings.
I grabbed the red rose to crush it when I realized that it was his unique way of saying thank you for letting him sleep a few hours in my room.

Dear diary:
One day in Spanish class, Sister Pauline was giving out the exams. When I saw the grade on my exam I nearly fell from my chair. I got an A+. But then I realized that she had given me Keith's exam. I turned around and saw that he was scribbling something on the back of the exam.
After school, I went to look for him to ask him to give me my exam. But he was nowhere to be found. I waited for him in the garden for hours. He didn't return until sunset. I stopped him and said, "Keith – Sister Pauline gave me your exam by mistake. Can I have mine, please?"
He opened his binder and searched for the exam.
"You're right, Ally. I always get A's in Spanish and you got a B minus."
"Sorry, your eminence. I'll study harder next time."
"Let me check your exam. You had problems with the verbs. The past participle of forget is olvidado."
I frowned. "Give me back my exam."
He waved a hand at me. "And how do you say I love you in Spanish?" he asked.
"I don't know. Why don't you tell me, smarty-pants."
"Te amo," he whispered.
"Excuse me?"
"Te amo. Come on, say it."
I reached over and snatched my exam from him. "Leave me alone!" I snapped.
He took my wrist and gently squeezed it. "Say it," he ordered.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Te amo. Are you happy?"
He smiled softly at me. "Very," he said, releasing me.
We stared at each other for a long time and then he said, "Buenas noches, Princesa mía."
I just stared at his backside as he walked away. Did he just call me his princess? Was that a declaration of love? Or was he just playing with me?
Back in my room, I picked up my Spanish exam and noticed that Keith had drawn a picture of a girl on the back. I gazed at the drawing for a few minutes and realized that it looked somewhat like me. Could it be that he really cared about me?
As you might imagine I still keep that exam, here in the side pocket of my diary.

Dear diary:
I'm writing this in the control room. I offered Coran to stay here so he could get some sleep. The Alliance still has not replied.
One night, I was in my room doing my homework when I heard a light tap on the window. I turned around and saw Keith on the balcony.
I opened the window. "What are you doing here? It's almost 7pm."
He smiled. "I came for you. Let's go to the movies, they're showing Scream 25."
"I'm not going anywhere with you."
He smirked. "If you don't go out with me, I'll tell everyone who you really are."
I frowned. "Oh really? And who am I?"
"HRH Princess Allura of the Royal House of Arus."
I widened my eyes. "H-how did you find out?"
"I always get A's in computer class. I hacked into the school system and read your file."
I panicked. If they found out I was a princess my classmates would have a field day! What am I going to do? I thought.
"Ally – I'm waiting."
"I'm not going."
"Is that your final answer?"
I groaned inwardly. I had to abide to his wishes. "Alright, I'll go out with you."
He smiled mischievously at me. "Excellent. Grab a sweater and let's go," he said jumping off.
I gasped. "I can't jump from the balcony," I whispered loudly.
He looked up at me. "Of course you can! I'll catch you!"
Hurriedly, I checked myself on the mirror and applied a little lip gloss, and then grabbed my pink sweater from the closet. Crossing myself, I jumped right into his arms. It felt wonderful, but before letting him get any wrong ideas I asked him to put me down.
He smiled at me. "Okay," he said in a hushed tone.
We went downtown in his black convertible. It was a beautiful car. He said that it was a German car, a brand new, 2295 Porsche Boxster.
He showed me his driver's license. It said that he was eighteen years old. I told him that he could get in trouble, but he just laughed it off. "I'm an excellent driver," he said with a strange tone in his voice.
Now that I think about it, he really looked older than fifteen. He was taller than the rest of my classmates and he had a deep voice. He could easily pass for an older guy.
We went to Horton Plaza, a shopping mall located in downtown San Diego. It had a cinema complex with 5 theatres and about 140 stores.
I told him that I didn't like horror movies. I read the movie listing and they were showing movies from the 1990's. A movie caught my attention, it was Romeo and Juliet starring an actor called Leonardo DiCaprio.
Keith said that he didn't like love stories. So we decided to have dinner instead. He took me to a restaurant called Planet Hollywood and we ate hamburgers. Afterwards we shared a cinnamon roll at Claudia's. It was delicious.
We strolled along the corridors of the shopping mall. Suddenly, he stopped and said, "I'm glad you accepted to go out with me."
I gazed at him for a few moments. I wasn't about to tell him that I was delighted to be on a date with him.
"I didn't have a choice, remember?"
He chuckled softly. "You really hate me, don't you?"
"I don't hate you, but sometimes you get on my nerves."
I then glanced at my watch. "Let's go back to the academy, before Sister Bernice starts her rounds."
He reached for my hand. "Your wish is my command, Your Highness."
We returned to the academy at about 11pm. The gates were already closed. But he was an expert on jumping the walls and we were able to enter the grounds undetected. He accompanied me to the back door of the girl's dormitory.
"Here you are, safe and sound," he said.
"Thank you, Keith."
He braced his hands on the frame above me. I peeked at him, not hiding but maybe just a little shy and utterly fascinated by the warmth in his eyes. I smiled at him.
"Ally," he said, his hand sliding carefully to cradle my head. "I'm going to kiss you. I don't want you to say no. But if you do, I won't get mad, okay?"
I drew a breath, pressing my body against the door as I stared at him. "Okay."
He groaned and lifted me off my feet, pressing me back against the door to kiss me.
Oh my, it was the sweetest, most beautiful experience. The soft caress, a moment of aching tenderness, then his lips crushed down, and heat swept through me.
I gasped as he invaded my mouth with his tongue, my hands slipping up his shoulders to grip his hair, feeling the muscles bunch in his neck and shoulders. His chest pressed into my breasts and my nipples tightened beneath my sweater.
He broke away with a gasp. "Allura," his harsh voice said wonderingly. "You're amazing."
"You too."
"I'll see you tomorrow. Good night," he said gruffly.
"Good night."
I thought that no one had witnessed our kiss, but a certain brunette had, and she was mad, really mad.

APRIL 10TH
Dear diary:
Coran sent me to my room, so I could get some rest. But I couldn't sleep, so I decided to continue with my story.
I was in my room studying for an English exam when I heard footsteps in the hallway. I turned around and noticed a letter on the floor. I rose from my seat and picked it up. It was letter from Keith, written in a word processor.
~Allura:
I had a terrible fight with father. He won't let me visit my mother in Paris during the summer break. I need someone to talk to. Please come to the football field.
Keith
P.S. Please destroy this letter.~
I hurried to football field. He was sitting on the bleachers. When he saw me he stood up.
"Keith – I received your letter."
He gave me a puzzled look. "My letter? I'm here because of your letter."
"I don't understand. Someone left a letter in my room."
He frowned. "Where is it?"
"The letter said that I should destroy it."
He cursed softly. "Ally – I didn't write that letter. Someone played a trick on us."
Suddenly, the lights on the field were turned on, blinding us for a few moments.
"You see, Sister Josephine - they have been meeting here for the past few months!"
Keith frowned deeply. "Marianne! I should have known it was you!"
I gasped and instinctively grabbed his hand.
"Sister Josephine, don't listen to her, she's lying!" he snapped.
She glared at us. "Keith Alexander Lyons, you're here by suspended. You will stay in your room until further notice."
"That's not fair!" he cried.
She then turned to me. "I will not allow this kind of behavior. Kristina Allura Lyons, you're here by expelled from this academy."
Keith stepped in front of me. "Why don't you expel me like her?"
She coughed nervously. "You're a special case."
"Special case?" he snorted. "Bullshit! You don't want to kick me out because of my father's money!"
"Keith Alexander! I will not tolerate that kind of language from you! Go to your room! As for you Kristina Allura, Sister Perpetua and Sister Berenice will escort you to your room. And you will stay there until your parents come for you."
I began to cry. How would I be able to explain this to my parents? Marianne had planned all this to get back at me for taking Keith away from her. But I didn't mean to. It just happened!
As the sisters dragged me away with a smiling Marianne in tow, Keith continued yelling at the headmistress. I prayed that he would calm down. There was nothing he could do. Maybe it was better that I should leave Terra. What I thought was going to be a great experience had resulted in a bitter and painful ordeal.

APRIL 11TH
Dear diary:
I spent the next two days in my room. The only person I saw was Sister Winnifreda who brought me food. She said that Sister Josephine had not been able to reach my folks because of a meteor shower.
On the third day, Sister Perpetua entered my room and said, "Kristina Allura Lyons - you can return to class. Sister Josephine has decided not to call your parents after all. She thinks that two days in solitaire is punishment enough."
I was so relieved. I grabbed my binder and ran out. I entered the classroom and everyone stared at me. I averted my gaze and walked up to my desk. There I found a vase with a red rose.
Patty turned to me and whispered, "It was Joel's idea. He thought that maybe you were sad with Keith's departure."
I gasped softly. "Keith's gone?"
She nodded. "You didn't know? He left the next day after the incident. I heard that he spoke with Sister Josephine for hours and then left school."
I lowered my head and my eyes filled with tears. Keith – why did you leave me? I thought despairingly. The rest of the class was a total blur. I only kept thinking about him.
During recess I went to the cafeteria with Patty. There I met with Marianne.
"Well – look who's here… the little hussy from 3B. Because of you, Keith was expelled. I hope you're happy!" she sneered.
I glared at her. "You witch! You planned all this!"
She smiled wickedly at me. "But you can't prove it!"
"Marianne Armstrong – Keith told me about your prank and I have proof."
We turned around and saw Sister Josephine with a letter in her hand.
"But I didn't do anything, Sister," she said in a sweet voice.
"What about this letter Keith received?"
She blinked rapidly. "You can't prove anything – it was written with a computer," she said nervously.
Sister Josephine quirked an eyebrow. "And how do you know it was written with computer? No one else has read it."
Marianne widened her eyes. She had been discovered! She stepped back and ran away. Keith had kept his letter. Our names had been cleared because of him.
I asked Sister Josephine if it was true that Keith had been expelled because of me. She said that he had left of his own free will. I told her that I was sorry the academy was going to lose the support of Mr. Lyons. She smiled warmly at me and said that I shouldn't worry. That God would provide for them.
Days later, Marianne left the academy. I don't know where she is right now and I don't care, as long as she is far away from me.
As for Keith, I tried to speak with his father, but the servants always told me that he was unavailable. I was so worried about him, until one day I received a letter from him. I still have it with me.
~Ally:
I'm writing you from Paris. I'm staying with my mother and stepfather. He's a nice guy. His name is Michael Harrison. He's a commander from the Galaxy Garrison European Division. He thinks that I could become a space explorer.
I told him that I don't like to be ordered around. But he said that if I want to be a leader someday, I must learn to obey first.
Soon he will be transferred to GG Western Division in Los Angeles. He has offered to help me get into the Los Angeles Space Academy after I graduate from high school. To become a space explorer I would have to study four more years.
As you can imagine, father is very angry with me for disobeying his orders. He cut off my allowance and took away my car. But I don't care. I'm going to show him that I can make it without him.
You must be in finals, I wish I could see you again, but I want you to know that I'm doing this for you. You were the first person to listen to my problems and offer to help. The next time we meet, I'll be a space explorer, I promise.
I'm sorry for all the bad moments. Please forgive me. I was only trying to get your attention.
I know that you're going back to Arus after graduation. Good luck in high school.
Take care,
Keith
P.S. Allura te amo, te extraño mucho. Por favor no me olvides.~ (Allura I love you. I miss you very much. Please don't forget me)
When I finished the letter I could not stop crying. He loved me… and I loved him. I shall never forget him. He was my first love… my only love. I miss him so much.
It has been more than seven years since I last saw him. Sometimes I wonder if he managed to stay in the space academy. He couldn't stand the tough discipline of a Catholic school, much less the military. But he promised to graduate, and I hope he does.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if he was one of the space explorers assigned to revive Voltron?
Sounds like someone is banging on the main door of the castle. Could it be that our prayers have been answered? That the five space explorers have finally arrived? Oh God! I hope so. I'm going to find out.
More later.
Allura folded Keith's letter and gave it a kiss before returning it to the side pocket of her diary. She closed her diary and left her bedchamber.
And the rest like they say is history….
The End.
